Under the Sustainability Charter of the Azores, which aims to recognize the Region as a sustainable destination, the SATA Group undertook, in early 2018, to apply the Electronic Flight Bag System in Azores Airlines, to implement two segment boarding passes and to complete the replacement of the Airbus A310 fleet with the innovative Airbus A321neo.
SATA IMAGINE establishes new partnership with the Lisbon zoo
The partnership with the Lisbon zoo allows all SATA IMAGINE members to get a 15% discount on the entry ticket and a 10% discount on the merchandising store. Good news for animal lovers who want to visit an important and attractive recreational and educational space, with about 2.000 animals of 300 different species.
A321neo “Breathe” integrates Azores Airlines fleet
The A321 CS-TSF with the paint scheme “Breathe” is the first A321neo to be part of the Azores Airlines fleet.
The A321neo integrates many innovations, such as state-of-the-art engines, Sharklet onboard devices and cabin enhancements that together will deliver up to 20% fuel economy by 2020.
Airbus A321neo “Breathe” baptism ceremony
On February 5, the baptism ceremony of the new Azores Airlines aircraft, the A321neo took place. It was named after Marciano Veiga, SATA’s first commercial flight pilot accomplished on June 15, 1947, on a Beechcraft Expeditor named “Açor”.
The baptism ceremony was presided by the President of the Regional Government of the Azores, Vasco Cordeiro, under the blessing of Father Hélio Soares, and took place in the maintenance hangar of João Paulo II Airport in Ponta Delgada, where dozens of people had the opportunity to witness another historic moment of the airline. The godmother of the aircraft was the best student of the 11th year of the Secondary School “Antero de Quental”, Marta Neto de Medeiros dos Santos e Sousa.

New lounge in Lisbon
SATA Group offers even more privacy, comfort and tranquility to its passengers, with a higher quality lounge. In the commercial heart of Lisbon Airport’s Terminal 1, the ANA Lounge is a private space with a panoramic view of the runway, designed for those who want to work and for those who wish to relax. Passengers flying on SATA Plus class can now add to all business class benefits the convenience offered by the ANA Lounge. The most frequent passengers of the SATA IMAGINE program – Goldsky members – have access to this lounge with a companion.
SATA Group brings the Red Nose Operation to the Azores
As part of the celebrations for World Children’s Day, the Regional Section of the Azores of the Order of Nurses, together with the Red Nose Operation, decided to make happy the children hospitalized in the pediatric services of the three hospitals in the Region, as well as families and professionals who take care of them daily.
This initiative, sponsored by the SATA Group, in addition to visits to inpatient services, also included visits to outpatient units and day hospitals, as well as three workshops for nurses and nursing students in Angra do Heroísmo, Ponta Delgada and Horta. These workshops, entitled “In Search of Your Inner Clown”, seek through interactivity and the relationship with the other to awaken sensibilities and promote laughter as a therapeutic tool.
New sales office in Cape Verde
Also in June, the SATA Group inaugurated a new sales office in Praia, Cape Verde.
This sales office reinforces the presence of the Azorean airline in that country, with the mission of consolidating sales and improving support to passengers in that market. Azores Airlines offers flights to Cape Verde, from Ponta Delgada, connecting the archipelagos of the Azores, Madeira, the Canary Islands and Cape Verde for the first time in its history, and substantiating the goal of becoming a reference company in the Macaronesia.
This link is also intended to attract passengers from North America, who may fly from Boston, heading for Praia, with a small stopover in Ponta Delgada.
A321neo “Wonder” baptism ceremony and farewell to the A310 fleet
On October 15, the last flight of the last aircraft of the A310 fleet, named “São Miguel”, was carried out under the commands of Captain Carlos Moniz and First-Officer Luís Brito and the A321neo was baptized as “Sete Cidades”.
Two moments of great excitement, representing the departure of a fleet that served the company so well for almost two decades, and the beginning of a renewal cycle with the new and innovative Airbus A321neo.
SATA was at the Web Summit
Azores Airlines participated in the Web Summit from November 5 to 8.
With a stand that featured the triangular shapes and blue shades of its corporate logo, Azores Airlines publicized the incredible experiences that can be enjoyed in all its destinations and in particular in its central destination, the Azores islands. One of the experiences highlighted was surfing, which every year draws many practioners of the sport, symbolized in this space by a board made out of Cryptomeria wood from the Azores.
Web Summit participants visiting the Azores Airlines stand also encountered a themed area, similar to the cabin of an aircraft, where they could review various types of content available on the back of the seats and branded collector’s items.
Web Summit is Europe’s biggest technology, innovation and entrepreneurship event and was attended by many investors and leaders in world tech.
This year saw 70.000 people taking part, including the CEOs and founders of major global companies, the most promising startups, influential investors and renowned journalists.
New Cash&Miles service
With the new Cash&Miles service, frequent flyers have an additional opportunity to use their miles to purchase flights on Azores Airlines and SATA Air Açores and pay the remaining with a credit card or PayPal.
SATA awarded 2018 Prize for Promoting Bicycle Use
The SATA Group has been awarded Portugal’s national “Mobilidade em Bicicleta” prize for 2018, as the only Portuguese airline that does not charge an additional fee to transport bicycles, as well as offering passengers an additional 10kg on the limit for hold baggage.
New cabin crew finish training in the Azores Aeronautical Training Academy
The SATA Group, through its Azores Aeronautical Training Center, under the pedagogical coordination of SATA Air Açores, concluded the 1st Edition of the Initial Cabin Crew Training, which took place from October 08 to December 11, 2018.
The course’s purpose is to qualify young people who intend to embrace this career, which aims to guarantee the safety and comfort of passengers onboard.
The Certificates delivered to the thirty-eight trainees who, during 4 weeks and divided by 2 groups, successfully attended this course enable them to exercise their profession, through the individual certificate of cabin crew to be issued by ANAC. The next step for each of these new aviation professionals is their integration into the regional, national or European job market.
It is a great honor for the SATA Group, through the Azores Aeronautical Training Center, to contribute to the qualification of specialized human capital for civil aviation.
