A long time ago, a stunning island, outlined by black sand and the intense blue of the Atlantic, witnessed the anguish of the Prince of Tides, who lived an unrequited love.

His beloved was in love with another prince and not even using the spells of a powerful fairy, he could change that true love.

From his bed of black basalt rock and volcanic sand, the Prince of Tides, desperate with rage and jealousy, violently stirred the sea while engendering ideas of revenge.

The opportunity came on the day the couple exchanged their first kiss, in the place where today is Prainha de Angra do Heroísmo.

Blinded by jealousy, the almighty lord of the seas ordered the ruthless witch to eliminate the prince, but to spare his beloved. A spell was then cast on the prince, which immediately transformed him into Monte Brasil. The princess, refusing to leave her lover, bent over him, and allowed herself to be transformed into what is now the bay and city of Angra do Heroísmo.

Since then, the two have been joined together forever, over the powerful Atlantic Ocean, creating one of the most beautiful landscapes in the Azores.
