World Tourism Day has a very special meaning for us. Every day, we carry many people who want to visit other places, and we have been expanding our network of destinations to take them to almost any part of the world. But our destination by nature is the Azores.

The Azores have been a desired destination for many tourists lately, especially in this post-pandemic period, when we all need to escape and fulfill our travel dreams. And these magical islands actually offer all kinds of adventures and experiences capable of leaving any tourist with a full heart on their way home.

However, we all want to ensure that the countless visits, however well-intentioned, and the countless flights that we undertake every day, do not compromise the sustainability of the stunning islands of the Azores and, on a larger scale, also of the destinations in which we operate and of the planet itself. Our Sustainability Policy and all the measures we have been taking are small steps in this direction.

By the way, this year’s World Tourism Day theme focuses precisely on raising awareness of the social, cultural, political and economic value of tourism and the contribution of this activity to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. This theme suggests that we need to rethink the future of tourism and how it’s done by putting people and the planet first and bringing together all the stakeholders, from governments and companies to local communities, around a shared vision of a sector that’s more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient.
