Ask the pilot #4

Do you still want to clear up all of your doubts during a flight? Keep an eye out for “Ask the pilot”. Here you’ll find all the answers!

What happens if the plane window cracks during the flight?

This is very unlikely to happen, but still… you have nothing to worry about. Aircraft windows are very resistant and have three protective layers. The middle layer has a small “breathing hole”, which is absolutely normal and designed to help equalize window pressure when the aircraft gains or loses altitude.

Why do aircraft seats have to be upright during take-off and landing?

It is an additional safety measure in case of hard landing or emergency. Two or three centimeters apart may seem irrelevant, but in fact, a reclined seat is less stable and it can disturb the passenger who sits behind you in case of evacuation. There it is, it’s another safety measure.
