Faro is much more than a place to pass through. The historical, natural, and cultural heritage, combined with dynamism and wonderful cuisine, make the city of Faro an unmissable vacation spot. We leave you with some reasons that will certainly make you consider spending more time in the capital of the Algarve.
Faro Marina

One of the city’s highlights is the Marina. Busy in the morning, cosmopolitan at lunchtime, charming at sunset and exciting at night, it is also the starting point for adventures and boat trips to the Ria Formosa. Don’t forget to enjoy the huge potential of the Faro sign to take a photo.
Ria Formosa

Faro’s natural heritage includes the Ria Formosa Natural Park, elected one of the 7 Natural Wonders of Portugal. In front of Faro, the ria reaches its maximum width of 6 km and constitutes a true biodiversity sanctuary.
The most popular and highly recommended activity is the boat trip around the Ria Formosa’s islands, a memorable experience provided by several companies that offer cruises and activities at sea in addition to the different boat trips, with different durations and stops.
Santo António Street

Start your Faro downtown tour on Rua de Santo António. With admirable Portuguese pavement, typical buildings, and several shops, it also offers pleasant terraces to enjoy the pleasant atmosphere of this area.
Bairro Ribeirinho

In Bairro Ribeirinho, in downtown Faro, there are some points not to be missed: the Maritime Museum, the Church of Nossa Senhora do Carmo, best known for the Capela dos Ossos de Faro attached to it, and the Igreja Matriz de São Pedro, patron saint of sailors.
Vila Adentro and Arco da Vila

Faro’s ex-libris can be found within its ancient walls. Vila Adentro can be visited by entering through one of the several “entry doors”. Arco da Vila is the most emblematic and visited entry point, representing a peculiar border between the new city and the old city.
Arco do Repouso

Another entry point to Vila Adentro not to be missed is Arco do Repouso, where the Hermitage of Nossa Senhora do Repouso is also located. You can also exit through Arco do Repouso and walk around the outer perimeter of the walls to find other points of interest in the city.
Palácio Belmarço

You will certainly be surprised by the architectural beauty of the Belmarço Palace, the result of the city’s expansion outside the walls in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Cuisine and nightlife

Bars, typical restaurants, and clubs are spread out in the streets and alleys around Rua do Prior, in Bairro Ribeirinho.
The beautiful Faro Marina is also an excellent place for a night stroll. Full of restaurants, cafés, bars, ice cream shops, a children’s playground, and, during the summer, concerts and shows, Faro Marina is an excellent place to relax during and after sunset.
